Jemima Pierre: Tell your government to step aside and leave Haiti alone.
And I know that sounds crazy.
You’re told that you have to do something because things are so bad that you have to do something.
Let me just remind you, Haitian people defeated Napoleon’s army, they fought a war, and they became independent on their own.
Haiti has the capacity to do the same.
I do think we have to step back and be respectful enough of Haitian sovereignty and Haitian humanity to allow people to do what they need to do without the constant meddling of U.S., France, Canada into our affairs.
The most important thing that Canadians can do, Canadian leftists in particular, is to rally with Haitian people against intervention, against the constant meddling by the Canadian government. Right?
You need to stop the Canadian government from participating in this ongoing occupation of Haiti, from militarizing Haiti, from sending only military forces and so on, but also their NGOs, which actually makes their careers of Haiti.
The most important thing is to leave Haiti alone.
I say this, you know, with all the love for our Canadian brothers and sisters, but the message is: leave Haiti alone and tell your government to leave us alone

When I went to journalism school 10 years ago, my parents thought that they would eventually read my articles in The Montreal Gazette. Today, that newspaper is a husk of its former self. But I get to explain that I’m working towards critical, independent, and sustainable journalism.

It is long past the time that the United Nations, Canada and its North and South American cohorts need to disarm and demilitarize all of the gangs. Then there needs to be an International force to maintain stability and restore a fruitful Haitian economy. Without intervention and economic and social restoration Haiti will remain in crisis. Yes Haiti has been bullied over the passed 200 years but to exclude Canada and all its Allies to help Haiti become a prosperous a nd settled nation is ludicrous and ideological. I am a Socialist and believe we can make a change! Resistance is fruitful! Viva la Haiti
