A heartfelt thank you to Katia Lo Innes for her research and her clarity on the right wing attacks on migrants. Well presented! And I must add “Nailed!!”

I worked for Tim’s for over 23 years. Ron Joyce exchanged shares between Dave Thomas of Wendy’s. Tim’s became American. When Dave passed away an American Company took over and sacrificed the daily made donuts for rtb. Ready to bake. It’s made weeks ago and flash frozen. Stored in walk in freezers and taken out as needed. The muffins are already made with liners but previously frozen. A convection microwave defrost and heats up a yeast donut in under 3 minutes. Normally a yeast donut like a honey dip., dutchess or apple fritter would take up to 3 hours. The donuts are made by automation at a huge factory in Brantford by Swiss baking systems. The donut quality was sacrificed because donuts became only 8% of the total profits. Donut bakers made good wages and were like essential workers. The 11pm to 6am shift paid a larger premium due to the midnight shift. If I made 80 lbs of yeast dough I would be paid 100.00 for my shift. That was in the 80’s. If a donut shop liked tou they would offer another 5.00 a shift raise. With the new RTB American system someone who cannot even speak English can operate the oven due to pictures of the product and simple number buttons. The story back in 2009 was that owners could hire immigrants at a lower wage if necessary. The last 10 years gas seen a large influx of East Indian immigration due to Colleges offering courses with an easy permanent resident qualification. These workers are motivated, hard working and sometimes work for East Induan owners at a lower minimum wage for cash. I know someone working for 7.00 an hour because as a student they are inly allowed part time hours while studying their courses. In Wasaga residents are protesting a Tim Hortons because the new owner let go of all the workers of their community and hired workers that looked like him. He is from Brampton. The workers are basically replacement workers from Brampton. Well it is legal people feel it was not fair and they are letting the owner know. Here in Niagara Falls comments were made about a Booster Juice store that opened on Lundys Lane. The workers were surprisingly non East Indian. It was a change to the quick takeover of the once Anglo owned businesses and workers. No one is saying the recent immigrants are any less Canadian then those here 7 generations. We all came here through the British or French Colonies, some are children of Americans escaping their Revolution. Empire Loyakists they were called. I feel that allowing too many unskilled workers too fast hurts the system. Yes nany Canadians are about to retire. We will need Nursing homes, psws, fresh skilled workers, increased Health services for the newcomers, housing and jobs. It’s about crunching the numbers and taking care of those lucky enough to be here on First Nation’s lands. Canada 🇨🇦
