An authoritarian society exists when police have increasing authority and social programmes are cut. We need affordable housing, assistance with food security and better health care, including mental health. As well, funding for public education needs to be increased to allow people access to good jobs. If the social needs of society are addressed, the need for policing will decrease. Increased policing means that the status quo that protects the rich is all that matters.
