The Liberal government is giving billions in public handouts to oil companies to build a techno-fix to the climate crisis.
Desmond Cole breaks down how the supposed solution is actually just cover for endless fossil fuel production.

‘The first video I ever made with The Breach was on why we need to support the movement for Land Back. Today, it’s being used in educational settings everywhere—in universities and colleges and children’s classrooms too. When I give talks, people will say, ‘I saw your video and it helped me understand the issue.’
That’s what we do at The Breach—reach people where they are at, with bold ideas, principled analysis, and critical investigations.” – Pam Palmater, scholar and author

Desmond, a wonderful report. I agree with you. Considering the fragile situation in Alberta, influenced by trolls and our drill baby drill neighbours to the south, what strategy do you see to meet our environmental goals without revving up the Alberta rage machine?
It’s hard to fight the Government and Mega Oil Companies that use our money to fight us, Transparency is non-existant
The worst part is that all the targets agreed upon internationally to address the climate crisis ALREADY depend on (imaginary) carbon capture technology saving us once we have significantly overshot those targets. So this is not even some new terrible idea with potential to make things a little better—it’s a terrible idea that has been baked into every strategy we already had. As long as governmental climate policies start with the premise that capitalism can’t be threatened in any way (and they all do), nothing of any substance will be done to keep our planet hospitable to life.
Carbon capture makes no sense, but it seems the Fossil Fuel industry has captured our Canadian PM, if nothing else. We should insist that the polluters pay for the scheme and see how quickly it gets built.
Things that are actually money makers shouldn’t need more public tax dollar hand outs to proceed.
